Texas Seniors Opt For In-Home Care and Medical Alert Monitoring

Open
Given the choice, most folks would simply like to stay put in their own homes. These familiar surroundings provide a strong sense of comfort for seniors who are making the transition into retirement. To help their loved ones with this transition, families are turning towards the wide range of in-home care that is available for seniors all across the state, including medical monitoring systems. There is no need to pick up and move when all a person needs is an occasional helping hand.

Texas based agencies such as Encompass and Professional Caregivers provide certified nurses, therapists and other qualified caregivers to spend a few hours each day with a client who might require help with taking medications, getting dressed, grooming or just running household errands.

Having dependable help is a great stress reliever not only for the person receiving the care, but for their families as well. As much as we’d like to be with our loved ones we simply can’t devote the hours of specialized care they might need. This is why medical alarms for seniors are so popular all across Texas.

With these medical monitoring systems, seniors will never be far from emergency help. The medical alert is a perfect supplement to an in-home caretaker who might not be moving in, but just making daily visits.

At first, the relationship between an in-home caregiver and a client is all about establishing boundaries and setting up the routines for a visit. It’s not long before these relationships evolve into meaningful friendships. For all practical purposes, these caretakers will become a welcomed addition to your family. [Read More...]

Can I wear my Senior Medical Alert in the pool?

Open

My mother sometimes swims in the pool at her retirement community. Would it be okay for her to wear the senior medical alert when she goes in the pool?

Clarice

Hayward, WI

Hi Clarice,

The Senior Medical Alert is waterproof and safe to us in the home shower or bath but not in the pool. The chemicals are not safe for the pendant so we would recommend taking off the necklace or wristband before she swims and then making sure to put it back on afterward.

I hope this helps,

Noah

Medical alert customers in New York are thankful for less snow

Open

A lot of our medical alert customers in the state of New York and elsewhere on the East Coast are thankful for less snow this year. Less snow means safer conditions for so many seniors! Every year slips on icy driveways and just living in cold conditions can be a strain on the senior population. Even without the regular heavy snow, seniors should consider getting a medical alert for their home. You never know when an emergency or fall will happen, so it's just smart to get on top of it earlier… In the meantime, enjoy the warm weather New York!

Where should I plug in my medical alert?

Open

Even before your shipment arrives on your doorstep you will need to think about where you would like to have your medical alert located in your home. We recommend plugging in your system in a centrally located phone jack. This may be your living room, a hallway, or even a central bedroom. It is different for each house. That way our operator will be able to speak back and forth with you no matter where you are when you press your medical emergency necklace. While setting up the medical alert centrally is usually the right choice, the best thing to do is to test the medical alert just to make sure. You can do what we call the Walk Around Test. This test allows you to try speaking with an operator from each room in your house. If you need to, you can change the location after running the Walk Around Test to optimize the area covered! That way you know you will be able to speak to us anytime you press your medical emergency necklace.

"I want you to know that it gave me peace of mind knowing that my father had your system in his home for his protection. I did worry about him falling and being alone, and your system helped him to maintain his independence which was very important to him.

Thank you for the kindness you showed in dealing with my father."
