Reading here will inform you of many "Medical Alarm Issues"

My grandmother just had a fall and I want to make sure she is protected as soon as possible. If I order your senior medical alert system today, how long will it take before she receives it?

Also is there any extra charge for shipping?

Robin
Alexandria, VA

Hi Robin,

We send all of our medical alarm orders priority mail with the post office, which normally takes 2-3 days to arrive. There is no charge for shipping unless you’d like your order sent overnight.

We take pride in getting out each order in the mail the same day it is received, no matter what it takes.

One of my most memorable moments this year was talking to a daughter in Pennsylvania who was almost in tears after her mother had an emergency at home and she wanted to get her protected immediately. She asked if we could overnight the order. It was late in the day, around 5:30, and FedEx was closing at 6:00. I told her we would do everything we could to get her the order in time.

Even before I got off the phone, our president Roni, was racing to the equipment room to get the unit packed up. After I hung up, she handed me the package and I ran outside to my car. With a rare Los Angeles rain storm pouring down on my car, I managed to arrive at the FedEx store just in the nick of time.

When I got to work the next day, I quickly turned on my computer and tracked the package. It had arrived in Pennsylvania at 10:30 AM the next morning! I immediately called the customer to make sure she had received it and was filled with satisfaction as she thanked me, overjoyed at our effort.

Just another day at the office.

The help button normally provided by good alarm companies will reliably get the help you need at the touch of a button. It connects you to your local 911 emergency response team. And let me say this about the 911 teams around the country…they are the noble heroes of our time.

Being in the medical alarm business I get to see and hear how well these first responders are trained. They leap into action in spite of the dangers they face daily.

When you meet these heroes, greet them like you would a cherished friend and thank them for their service.

I always do.

This has got to be one of my favorite questions. I can speak to who has the best medical alarm system for many pages, but I’ll spare you my long winded answer.

Who recommends our medical alarm system? Most importantly I do!

Although it was back in 2002 and 2003 that we were listed in AARP’s “My Generation” magazine and their “AARP the Magazine Online” as a resource for Personal Alarms…I’m tickled by how many people when we ask say they were recommended to our company by AARP. It has been years since AARP listed our Senior Safety organization but they appear to have a really long reach. There must be some of their customer service people who still remember  us and know how good we really are to our clients. We receive at least eight clients a month that swear that AARP is where they heard about us. Who am I to argue? :-)

If you take a look at our Thank You Letters section here on our blog you will find an infinite number of government agencies, fire departments, police departments, hospitals, American Red Cross, individual family members and more thanking us for our peoples kindness and our charity.

We love helping people. I’ve reached a stage in life that I like helping others. It makes me feel good.

I’m often asked who is the best elderly alarm company for a senior mom or dad.

My best advice to a noble caregiver is to read all the brochures and listen to what the particular company they are calling says. The good elderly alarm companies don’t try to push an alarm on you, they take time and answer your questions, and they surely don’t speak poorly of others.

You know, there is no reason to speak poorly of the bad companies, any one with half a brain and quickly tell who is the slick salesman and who is a caring businessman or woman. Certainly all of us would like your business, but only the best companies don’t mind directing you elsewhere if that were a better solution for you.

I’m often asked why are we so inexpensive compared to other elderly alarm systems, it’s simple, we have many clients we care about, taking more money than a senior can afford is poor form. We don’t need more clients; however, we do appreciate everyone’s business that chooses our elderly alarm.

Take your time to think about your decision. We are considered the most affordable elderly alarm of all the eight or so larger companies in the industry.

I strive to hire good caring people, not salesmen. No one here is on commission, they receive more money from me when they receive more of the lovely letters of thanks from their happy customers. We all pass the thank you letters around and smile at our good fortune.

Our employees have been here a long time. You may speak to Noah (a comedian at heart), Lisa (our early morning person and a special needs elementary school teacher, and a great mom), Michelle (who has her MA in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy), Roni (who has an MS in hearing impairment and who amazingly remembers everyone of our customers), Kenny (our in house classically trained chef and cameraman), Casey (a producer at heart who has made several films), and others that you will enjoy getting to know yourself.

We care.

My mother is now residing in a nursing facility & no longer needs her Get Help Now medical alarm service.

Thank you for the years of great service from your efficient and caring staff. You gave my mom a sense of security to know that help was only a “button punch” away.

Avis

I’d like to sign up for your medical alarm service for my mother but with the holiday season passing us I wanted to make sure that she will be protected every day of the year, including weekends and holidays.  Are there any times you are closed?

Ann
Lincoln, Nebraska

Hi Ann,

Our medical alarm monitoring service is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. In other words, there is no time where your mother won’t be protected.

And if you just want to call us in the business office with a question or concern, we’re available Monday through Saturday during business hours. And even on Sunday or during off hours, if you leave us a message, we’ll call you back as soon as possible!

I hope this helps,

Noah

Question from Carol:

We need to cancel our medical alarm service with Get Help Now  will we get a refund for the months not used?

Mom is now in a nursing home…she so loved how all of your people treated her. Mom said she felt so comfortable staying at home knowing that Roni or Michelle would call her and chat from time to time. She was really moved by the love she received from you guys.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all companies operated the way you all do?

Thanks so much,

Carol

Grand Rapids, MI

Hi Carol,

How sweet thank you! Of course you will receive a refund for all months not used. We’ll miss Rose’s calls she is a doll. Tell her to give us a call from the nursing home when she is lonely. She’s a real hoot.

Be well,

Jeff

I am researching medical alarm companies for my mother who lives in Twin Rocks, Pennsylvania. She is 90 years old and lives on her own. Do you use the nearest response team or do you have certain company under contract?

Robin

Hi Robin,

Bless your mom, I love hearing that a 90 year old is living on their own.

As for the response team, we always use the local 911 first responders…we just have a direct number into them in each and every town in the United States. These are the best responders money can buy  Splash page graphic.

I hope this answers your question,

Noah

Wow…is all I can say when I see how much the public appreciates receiving the “Vial of Life” Kits.

Since the end of March, I have distributed more than 300 Kits to United Way Caregivers, Emergency Medical Squad Captains and various older adult groups. Next month we will more than double this distribution number.

Thanks to your generosity we will be able to reach out to many more people in the upcoming months. I just wanted you to know how grateful the receiver was, and how delighted I am to be able to give them this critical tool.

Thanks for all your help and interest!

Sincerely,

I am impressed by your very affordable prices on your medical alert necklaces.

I am concerned though that, after I purchase your system, my monthly charge will go up in the future. Could that happen?

Joe
Cherry Hill, NJ

Hi Joe,

The answer to your question is simple. Absolutely not. Your monthly charge for using our medical alarm system will never go up.

I hope this helps,

Noah

I’m considering a senior medical device for my uncle. He lives in a senior community where you have to dial “9″ before any number is dialed on each residents phone. He also has DSL in the apartment.

Will your system work with his phone service?

Ann
San Francisco, CA

Hi Ann,

The Get Help Now medical alarm is fully compatible to work with DSL and any residence that require a “9″, or any number for that matter, to be dialed. Just let us know beforehand and we will send you out the proper unit.

I hope this helps,

Noah

A medical alert necklace provides a senior with the peace of mind that with the push of a button help will be on the way.

The elderly are able to maintain their independence at home longer by wearing a medical alert necklace.

Thanks!

I have been giving out Vial of Life info and stickers to every new client and support group members along with the American Senior Safety medical alert necklace info.

When your loved ones are in trouble they need a life line to reach out for help.

Frequently their life line is a senior medical alarm system that acts as a first alert if they fall or can’t reach the phone to call for help.

Seniors living alone live longer and with more confidence to stay in their own homes with a medical alarm at their side.

In my opinion, their own home is where a senior thrives best and is most comfortable.

I need to purchase an elderly medical alarm for my father who lives alone and has fallen in the past and needed help.

Doing a simple internet search, I was inundated by so many different companies. It’s very confusing.

How should I choose which company to sign up with?

Don
Brooklyn, NY

Hi Don,

I talk to people everyday who are equally confused. In reality the equipment from each company is very similar. Thus your decision should comes down to price, service, dependability, experience and reputation.

Questions you should ask include how much will you be paying monthly? Are there any other charges, like setup or installation fees? Can your price be raised? Are you committing to a certain time frame of service? How long has the company been in business? Is the monitoring center certified?

An independent website like Lawserver is a good start to compare different medical alarm companies for the elderly. Browse their site it’s a good read. And of course, we love what they have to say about us.

I hope this helps,

Noah

My mother lives in the middle of nowhere in Huntsville, Alabama. She recently had a fall which scared her so I’m now looking at getting her a medical alert so she can feel safer.

I understand that in case of an emergency your service can call nearby relatives, friends or neighbors to meet the emergency services and open the door. Unfortunately, my mothers home isn’t close enough to anyone for that to be a viable option.

If we leave a hidden key somewhere, would the paramedics know where to find it? I don’t want her door broken down in case of an emergency or, even worse, a delay getting inside the home.

Robin
Memphis, TN

Hi Robin,

Your concern is something I hear every day from relatives calling to ask questions about how our medical alert service works. The fact is, even if you did have friends, relatives or neighbors with a key nearby, there is never a guarantee they would be available to meet the paramedics in case of an emergency.

So to answer your question, if you do keep a hidden key on the premises, all you would need to do is tell us the location and if any emergency personal were sent to the home, we’d alert them to the exact location upon dispatch.

In fact, we offer a free gift with each new order of our senior medical alert system. One of the free gift options is a lock box to hide your key in. I think you’ll find this a great piece of mind for you and your family.

I hope this helps,

Noah

The system seems adequate, especially for serious troubles, and for a situation where the person wearing the alarm is alone. However, it may be unnecessary if the problem is not serious and there is actually someone nearby to help.

Is it possible to have an alarm that, in the first instance, signal to another person (say, a household member who may be in a different room) that the senior needs some help or monitoring?

Thank you,

Kanitta
KAAAWA, Hawaii

Hi Kanitta,

This is a very commonly requested question, and you are quite correct that often we do not have to call for 911. If someone is in the house they will hear the very loud tone of our system and the booming voice over the speaker box.

Alternatively, if the person wearing the alarm can speak and informs our operator that he only needs one of his/her contacts alerted but not the paramedics, then that is all we will do.

However, should you or the person with the problem not respond, then of course, for the safety of your loved one, we will dispatch 911.

Usually there is plenty of time before we dispatch for you to become aware of the situation. Our system is designed to be heard well throughout a 3500 square foot house.

I hope this helps, and thank you for asking,

Noah

What is the charge to purchase your medical alarm system? What about the cost of hook up/set up/installation?

Melvin
Tampa, FL

There is no cost to purchase the Get Help Now medical alarm as you are merely renting it for the cost of the service.

There is no hook up, set up installation charges. You simply plug the unit into a telephone jack and an electrical outlet, and then you press the button to test it. This usually takes about 10 minutes total time.

If you have any problem plugging the medical alarm in we will talk to you and guide you through any problem.

I hope this helps,

Noah

I want to purchase a medical alarm for my father.  I understand that he gets his choice of a necklace or wristband help button to wear.

If he needed help and pressed the button would he be talking to an operator through the help button?  How does it work exactly?

Laura
Houston, TX

Hi Laura,

With our Get Help Now medical alarm device your father would simply press the button if he needed help, which would send a signal to the speaker box that you would plug into your electrical outlet and phone jack.

In less then a minute we’d open a voice to voice channel from the speaker box, which means we’d be able to speak back and forth with him without him having to get up, move, or touch the phone.

We’d be talking to your father not from the pendant, but from the speaker box. It has a very loud speaker and extra sensitive microphone designed to communicate with someone from basically any room in the home.

I hope this helps,

Noah

I’m considering ordering your elderly medical alarm for my mother.  I was wondering about the monitoring center that you use for your service.  How are they certified?

Thank you for any information.

Beth
Plainview, NY

Hi Beth,

The Get Help Now medical alarm’s National Monitoring Center is UL listed, FM approved and Department of Defense cleared. Having all three of these listings is critical for a monitoring center to be fully prepared for any emergency. This ensures the monitoring center won’t go down and will be able to handle any situation.

Yearly inspections by each agency ensure that the monitoring center meets their stringent requirements. If any system fails a back-up system is implemented immediately and automatically.

Automatic transfer from city power to generator power is required, and is accomplished with back up power generators and UPS systems.

There are very few monitoring centers in the United States that qualify for all three of these prestigious certifications. We’re proud that ours does.

There’s nothing more important to us then making sure your loved ones are protected.

I hope this helps,

Noah

My mother lives by herself in an independent senior living complex. She just celebrated her 80th birthday last week and is still able to manage most of her day to day activities by herself. She is a very independent woman but I live hours away and I have started to get worried for her safety.

She hasn’t fallen or got hurt yet, so I’m wondering if I’m worrying too much and maybe I should wait before deciding to purchase a medical alert device.   What is the First Alert that my Mother needs a Medical Alarm Device?

Lauren
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Hi Lauren,

Your concern for your mother is completely normal and understandable. It’s something we hear every day while talking to people all across the country in similar situations. It’s natural to worry about the ones we love.

It sounds like your mother is in good health and that’s great to hear. However, as you know, getting older comes with a new set of challenges each day and sometimes an extra layer of protection can be the difference in a true emergency.

Unfortunately too often people decide to get a medical alarm device after their mother or father has had a fall or other emergency and couldn’t get the help they need on time. We find that protecting a senior against that very unfortunate circumstance before it happens is the best way to protect our loved ones when we can’t be around.

I hope this helps,

Noah

Hello Noah,

Thank you very much for the Vial of Life Project stickers and medical info sheets. They have been very helpful when a medical emergency has happened in the mobile home park. I manage a 247 space park senior park and most have put the sticker on their windows and I have notified Palm Springs fire department about the program.

I would be very interested in senior medical alarm brochures for my residents. There are a few who would love to have the medical alarms.

Could a cell phone be used instead of a land line? My father needs one so bad but cannot afford a house phone.

Thank you very much for caring for our seniors.

Deborah Belleau
Manager
Ramon Mobile Home Park

Hi Deborah,

I’ll send brochures for our Get Help Now medical alarms to you right away. We’d love to help out your residents in any way we can and we really appreciate all you are doing!

Unfortunately our medical alert device only works with a land line. Some of our customers do purchase a separate land line to use with our alarms. You can usually find a very low priced phone plan to add to your home that doesn’t require long distance (our unit calls an 800 toll free number.) Feel free to email or call with any questions.

I hope this helps,

Noah

Feel free to call and ask for me personally… I’d love to help!

Your Question:

Do we get money refunded for months not used if something happens to my mother?

What if we were not satisfied with your medical alert service?

Pam

Hi Pam,

First of all your mother gets an automatic money back guarantee if she cancels within 30 days.

Second, currently she gets the rest of December and all of January free if she orders now.

Third, even if you signed up for a year and canceled at any time, you receive your money back for any unused months of service. :-)

Fourth, we don’t have too many customers through all of our years cancel due to be dissatisfied. Unless you don’t tell your mom she is getting a medical alert service…then watch out. :-)

We give great service and are unsurpassed in that area…just to brag.

Jeff

.

Our elderly relatives often find winter snow to be a difficult time of year. This first alert of winter falls is a good time to consider some type of medical alert device to protect your loved ones should they fall and need help to get up. Sometimes they are unable to reach the phone for help.

Consider talking to a variety of medical alarm companies to decide which one is the best medical alarm for your mom or dad…take time to compare medical alarm companies…they are far from the same.

Do they speak politely to you over the phone?  Or do they try to scare or push you into buying now? Do they speak badly of other companies? Do they give you an uneasy feeling in your stomach?

These are classical signs that the medical alarm company you are speaking too is a might scary.

Take time to make the right decision…a fast decision can wind you up with a long term contract that cannot be cancelled.

Order everyone’s brochure and then decide…give you and your family peace of mind.

Dear Casey,

Several weeks ago I received a packet from you with many Vial of Life decals and directions for use. This was in response to my request for some system to post for my elderly mother, who lives in a retirement community. Unfortunately the administrators in this large facility knew nothing about the Vial of Life System and of course neither did the residents.

I would like to thank you for sending me this material. Not only have I posted the decals in my mother’s living area, but shared some with the administrators of her facility, along with a fairly strong recommendation that they have an inservice for their employees, to make them acquainted with this system!

The word is now out in my community! Since I have learned of this system and shared my knowledge of it with friends,, I have had numerous requests for the decals and instructions for use. So far I still have some but may run out. If so I hope that I can request more from you. I would be glad to reimburse you for them.

So thank you Casey for your help, and on behalf of the many seniors in Michigan that now know about Vial of Life, keep up the good and essential work!

Sincerely,

I’d like to order your medical alert system for my elderly parents, who live far away from me.  Can both my mom and dad use the same medical alarm or do I need to purchase two?

Jane
Hartford, CT

Hi Jane,

Two people can easily use our same medical alert system, you would not need to purchase a second unit at all. Two pendants (necklace or wristband) can both connect to the one unit and protect both people. In fact, we offer a free gift with each order and one of the choices is an extra pendant, so both of your parents could use our system for no extra charge.

I hope this helps,

Noah

My 85 year old mother lives with me and has fallen while I was home. I did not hear her for a while and felt awful. We have been using a baby monitor to protect her but now I’m wondering if your medical alert device would be more safe?

Laura
Yuma, Arizona

Hi Laura,

While a baby monitor offers some level of security, there are many problems associated with its use. First off, in order for it to work properly, you would need to have someone else at the home monitoring the speaker at all times. Even then, if the senior fell or was in trouble and was unable to speak or speak loud enough, you wouldn’t know they needed help.

The Get Help Now medical alarm unit is designed to protect a senior living at home even if they can’t speak or even if someone else isn’t at home with them. All someone needs to do in an emergency is to press the help button on the lightweight waterproof necklace or wristband and, in under a minute, a trained operator from our monitoring center will be able to get them the help they need.

So if you are truly looking for the utmost protection for your mother, and to eliminate any of the inadequacies of a baby alarm, our medical alert device would be highly recommended.

I hope this helps,

Noah

Hi Noah,

Had a meeting this morning with Lt. De Luca from the OOB Police Department who I report to.  I told him about the medical alarm program and he’s as excited as I am and approved it all. As a matter of fact he mentioned that our Chief, Dana Kelley was looking for information on a medical alert device for his mother so I gave him a brochure.

I put in the mail today the Vial of Life packet that we are handing out to our residents. These Vials are kept at our Public Safety Building (Fire and Police) and some at the Town Hall. They are going like hot cakes!! Even the Recreation Committee, who have programs for the 55+ have started distributing them also. We started the process for the next 1000 and will include the recently received brochure you sent. I’m really looking forward to this exciting program.

I don’t have anything to report yet but I’m sure I will down the road. I have the Fire Chief (EMT’s) willing to report any life saving stories due to the Vial of Life Project.

I will keep you abreast. We appreciate and thank you again for doing such a worthy noble cause.

Good afternoon,

I am writing from the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office. I have talked with Elizabeth from the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew and she shared the information about the PERS Medical Alarm Systems.

We have a senior citizen program called TRIAD which has over 400 Senior Citizens in which most are on a fixed income and with some struggling financially. Your medical alert system seems like it would be an asset to our Seniors in Petersburg.

Thank you, in advance.

Hi Noah,

I’m thinking about the medical alert system for myself! I turned 54 last week and I live alone. I’m by no means a senior, but I did slip down the stairs. If I had hurt myself, I’ve been wondering how I could have gotten help.

I wanted to know what the hook up involves, how complicated it is. It doesn’t say in the brochure and I want to be able to tell seniors, who like me,are electronically challenged!

Thanks,

Dorothy, BSW
Manager, Geriatric Services

Hi Dorothy,

The setup for the medical alarm system is very simple. All that it involves is plugging the base unit into the electrical and phone outlets. It’s as easy as plugging in a home answering machine and usually takes no more then 5-10 minutes.

I hope this helps,

Noah

Get Help Now has been a pioneer in elderly alert systems, truly the first alert that the seniors are in trouble . We have helped thousands of seniors who have fallen and needed help getting up through the years.

Don’t leave your loved one to live alone without the ability to call for help when they need it most, when they can’t reach the phone for help.

My mother fell last week while taking a shower so I’m looking for a medical alert system that is waterproof.   Are your systems okay to use while taking a shower or bath?

Kim
Dallas, TX

Hi Kim,

Our elderly medical alarms are completely waterproof and designed to be used safely in the shower or bath. We understand that many seniors can fall while in the bathroom and our system would protect them in that case.

I hope this helps,

Noah

…I have forwarded the medical alert information to the people in this agency that are doing some special work with caregivers and seniors. Hopefully, it will get to someone who truly is in need.

On behalf of the Morris County Community, the Vials of Life project decals are being well received. Last week, we distributed over 100 of them to caregivers. We will be meeting soon with all the Emergency Medical Captains and giving them copies of the medical alarm system booklets you have sent to us.

We appreciate your generosity in sharing the Vial of Life, as well as this new information with all of us.

Regards,

Noah,

I have been doing emergency preparedness in a Mobile Home Park. The Park is restricted to 55 or older. We have quite a number of elderly folks who could benefit from the Medical Alert Alarm.

Thank you again

I am looking for a wearable alarm which would communicate not with an outside service, but with a party on the premises. This need not be speech communication as a beeping or similar device would work. If you yourselves do not carry such devices I would be grateful if you could indicate someone who does.

Thank you.

Hi Mitchell,

Our Get Help Now medical alarm device is meant to be used with a monitoring center…there could come a time that you are not available or awake where a medical alert system might be handy.

That said, I would try Radio Shack for some kind of bell or beeping remote device.

I hope this helps,

Jeff

Dear Senior Safety,

I am enclosing the monitor that was used by my Mom and Dad.  Dad passed away last year and Mom used her pendant until she passed away over summer.

I would like to thank you for all your help over the past few years.  They only needed to use it a few times and it worked great.

It was a comfort for all of us to know you would be there if they needed any help.

I have highly recommended your system to many people.

Thank you again for all your help.

Sincerely,

Jan

Dear Get Help Now,

I am returning the personal emergency response system for my father who passed away this year.

The service you provided him was excellent and gave me peace of mind, knowing he was only a “push button” away from help if he needed it.

Thank you so much.

There are approximately 11 million Americans over 65, and it is estimated that one in three adults 65 and older fall each year.

The lives of older Americans who prefer to stay at home are improved by being able to receive practical and emotional support from wearing an emergency necklace pendant.

Wearing a “SOS button” gives adult children and their elderly relatives’ peace of mind knowing that help with a fall or medical emergency is a push of a button away.

Since about a third of older folks live alone, the help button allows the security that in case of an emergency within minutes the first responders are alerted without the need to reach a phone.

So often my week is filled with calls from our clients or their families letting me know how comforted they were speaking to our monitoring center in the midst of these emergencies.

Just knowing that the paramedics are in route, and their loved ones have been alerted gives such reassurance in what is a very frightening time.

It warms my heart to hear each story, and to know that we have helped another one of our customer’s fulfill the wish of growing older in the comfort of their own homes.

The emergency necklace pendant has paved the way for this lifestyle revolution, making living independently as a senior not only a wish but a reality.

My mother has a large yard, how far away can a person be from the base when they are outside?

Is there a way to increase the distance with extra equipment?

Hi Lorie,

Our medical alarm system for seniors works well from the speaker box up to about 400 feet outside the home…it really needs to be tested at the location to be sure of its distance as the local environment has a lot to do with it.

There is no way to increase its distance nor would extra equipment work.

I hope this helps,
Noah
