Reading here will inform you of many "Medical Alarm Issues"

The elderly fall and those that don’t have a help button to get immediate attention lose confidence rapidly. They often become afraid to stay home alone with confidence.

Make sure you get your loved one a help button when they need it most, when they are alone and can’t reach the phone for help.

Well let’s see…

1. We’re the good guys :-)

2. I helped pioneer the elderly medical alarm industry in 1980.

3. In my first 15 years in the medical alarm industry I manufactured our equipment, wrote monitoring center software, and I care.

4. My people are very well trained, I look for people who have great customer care training…this comes in very handy when our clients or employees are having a difficult time.

5. My president Roni has her Master’s in the Hearing impaired.

6. I have a degree in Psychology.

7. We approach this business from a caring perspective, let alone a knowledgeable perspective.

8. If we need to, we will often spend an hour or more to help an elderly client understand how to rectify their situation, if we can’t, we’ll notify the family and solicit their help.

9. Our monitoring center is in Orange County, CA and is redundantly backed up in Arlington, Texas with the same data should an earthquake or other disaster try to throw us off line.

10. Our monitoring center is one of a very few monitoring centers that are UL Listed, FM approved, and Department of Defense approved…which means we can monitor not only you, but Defense installations, and large building fire systems.

We are prepared to serve and care about our clients, I have long ago earned enough money to retire, I stay in this business because I care, as do all of my staff. Earning another $24.95 per month is not important to me, what matters is doing the right thing.

Our motto and guiding principles are…do no harm, be ethical, and have a system I would be proud to use for my mother.

The best thing I can tell you about selecting your medical alarm service is, whomever you choose, take your time, talk to them, see who is a salesperson and who makes you feel good.

“We provide affordable housing for low-income, independent Elders.

We are grateful for your generous project.”

Dear Sister Joanna,

I have recently, in my last few years of life, discovered the pleasures and reward of charitable giving.

I applaud the noble work that you do every day, and I aspire to equal your efforts. I’m especially proud of having fed 150 children this past year in a Namibian village, their smiles warm and break your heart at the same time. But that is only money, I aspire to sweat and toil as well.

We will send you the Decals you have requested post haste. Let me know if there is more that we can do to help.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey C. Miller, CEO

This is an answer I gave about sending our brochure to a concerned daughter-in-law for her 81 year old mother-in-law who is heavy and wants to live in her own home. She goes on to state that her bedroom is on the 2nd floor. She is heavy, starting to weaken, but does not want to leave her home of 40 years.

I just thought I’d share this one since it is so similar to many questions or comments I receive.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for ordering our brochure, we’ll get it right out to you tomorrow.

I understand why your mother-in-law wants to stay in her own home. In my opinion, staying in your own home prolongs one’s life and allows your mother-in-law to have the best quality of life she can.

You know, when my grandfather had to leave his home of 50 years to live with my aunt, I felt it shortened his life, and he certainly wasn’t as happy as he could be. Don’t get me wrong, my aunt had him move in out of love and concern. My grandfather was my motivation to help pioneer the medical alarm industry back in 1980.

Though your mother-in-law is 81 and is heavy,  (me too :-) ),  the best elderly alert systems like ours will keep her independent for as long as she can be alone.

Thank you for caring about her and thinking of an elderly alert system. These often give you the first alert you need that a loved senior is in trouble.

Regardless of which company you choose, you will be making the right decision for her in my humble opinion.

Bless you,

Jeff

How to compare medical alarm companies is a question that is frequently asked. I’d say it is near impossible to do by just reading the Internet.

Medical alarm companies have sprung up all over the country, some provide wonderful caring medical alarm service, others are just after your money. Your first alert that it is not a good company is a slick salesman or woman telling you that another company monitors their clients in India. I know of no monitoring being done for a medical alarm company overseas.

I helped pioneer the medical alarm industry back in 1980, and yet, I read on the Internet more and more people claiming they started the industry back in the 70’s. I know of only one organization that started in the 1970’s, and that would be Lifeline. Lifeline at that time was using hospital emergency rooms to provide their monitoring services locally. I do believe they also had a center in the Boston area.

Lifeline, now known as Phillips Lifeline is the oldest and largest medical alarm service in the country. Many times they have offered to buy me out, me, I’m not selling. They have somewhere north of 700,000 clients. I imagine at times it is quite difficult for them to provide the service they would like.

The company you see often on TV that Dr. Koop is pushing is another very large company, they started in 1986 and use very powerful sales techniques to encourage many clients to subscribe. They are one of the best at bringing on new clients with their ads. One of the difficulties for this company is that TV advertising and salesman are expensive so they must pass this cost on to their clients. That’s just how business works.

This leads me to the very frequent question I am asked about our medical alarm service, “Why are you so inexpensive?” We’re not, we are properly priced in the market place to provide excellent service. We are considered to be the least expensive of all the major alarm companies. Why? I’m more concerned about keeping our client base and their families happy and providing the best medical alarm service possible. I, and my employees, make a great living doing just that, and that’s good enough for us.

Our clients are shocked at the level of service we provide. It is far from unusual for our customer service people to spend an hour at a time on the phone with someone who needs the help. We are ofter praised for our good service. It starts from the top, I only hire caring people, and we really do care.

I often laugh when people call here asking if we hire ethnic people, that’s one of the questions the salespeople from some companies push seniors to ask of their competitors…it’s a subtle inference that their company would not hire ethnic people. Let that be your first alert to be suspect of those organizations. And by the way, do you have something against ethnic people…isn’t that a might disgusting? What do they mean by that?

Use your common sense, if a person talks about the other companies poorly, they are usually talking about themselves. Give these type organizations a wide berth.

If a medical alarm service wants to lock you into a contract for any period of time, be careful, there is no reason to sign a contract that cannot be canceled. There is no reason to pay an installation fee, or to pay for the equipment used. This industry has evolved, the good companies out there would never do that.

The larger the company the more they must pass their expenses over to the client. Large national companies must operate this way.

Just be careful. Be comfortable with the people you are talking to, if something does not past the smell test it should not pass at all.

Sorry for rambling, but sometimes I just like to get on my high horse and shout out what’s real and what is not.

I don’t care which company you choose that fits your needs, there are many good medical alarm services out there.

We’re one of them!

The help button normally provided by good alarm companies will reliably get the help you need at the touch of a button. It connects you to your local 911 emergency response team. And let me say this about the 911 teams around the country…they are the noble heroes of our time.

Being in the medical alarm business I get to see and hear how well these first responders are trained. They leap into action in spite of the dangers they face daily.

When you meet these heroes, greet them like you would a cherished friend and thank them for their service.

I always do.

This has got to be one of my favorite questions. I can speak to who has the best medical alarm system for many pages, but I’ll spare you my long winded answer.

Who recommends our medical alarm system? Most importantly I do!

Although it was back in 2002 and 2003 that we were listed in AARP’s “My Generation” magazine and their “AARP the Magazine Online” as a resource for Personal Alarms…I’m tickled by how many people when we ask say they were recommended to our company by AARP. It has been years since AARP listed our Senior Safety organization but they appear to have a really long reach. There must be some of their customer service people who still remember  us and know how good we really are to our clients. We receive at least eight clients a month that swear that AARP is where they heard about us. Who am I to argue? :-)

If you take a look at our Thank You Letters section here on our blog you will find an infinite number of government agencies, fire departments, police departments, hospitals, American Red Cross, individual family members and more thanking us for our peoples kindness and our charity.

We love helping people. I’ve reached a stage in life that I like helping others. It makes me feel good.

I’m often asked who is the best elderly alarm company for a senior mom or dad.

My best advice to a noble caregiver is to read all the brochures and listen to what the particular company they are calling says. The good elderly alarm companies don’t try to push an alarm on you, they take time and answer your questions, and they surely don’t speak poorly of others.

You know, there is no reason to speak poorly of the bad companies, any one with half a brain and quickly tell who is the slick salesman and who is a caring businessman or woman. Certainly all of us would like your business, but only the best companies don’t mind directing you elsewhere if that were a better solution for you.

I’m often asked why are we so inexpensive compared to other elderly alarm systems, it’s simple, we have many clients we care about, taking more money than a senior can afford is poor form. We don’t need more clients; however, we do appreciate everyone’s business that chooses our elderly alarm.

Take your time to think about your decision. We are considered the most affordable elderly alarm of all the eight or so larger companies in the industry.

I strive to hire good caring people, not salesmen. No one here is on commission, they receive more money from me when they receive more of the lovely letters of thanks from their happy customers. We all pass the thank you letters around and smile at our good fortune.

Our employees have been here a long time. You may speak to Noah (a comedian at heart), Lisa (our early morning person and a special needs elementary school teacher, and a great mom), Michelle (who has her MA in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy), Roni (who has an MS in hearing impairment and who amazingly remembers everyone of our customers), Kenny (our in house classically trained chef and cameraman), Casey (a producer at heart who has made several films), and others that you will enjoy getting to know yourself.

We care.

.

Our elderly relatives often find winter snow to be a difficult time of year. This first alert of winter falls is a good time to consider some type of medical alert device to protect your loved ones should they fall and need help to get up. Sometimes they are unable to reach the phone for help.

Consider talking to a variety of medical alarm companies to decide which one is the best medical alarm for your mom or dad…take time to compare medical alarm companies…they are far from the same.

Do they speak politely to you over the phone?  Or do they try to scare or push you into buying now? Do they speak badly of other companies? Do they give you an uneasy feeling in your stomach?

These are classical signs that the medical alarm company you are speaking too is a might scary.

Take time to make the right decision…a fast decision can wind you up with a long term contract that cannot be cancelled.

Order everyone’s brochure and then decide…give you and your family peace of mind.

Get Help Now has been a pioneer in elderly alert systems, truly the first alert that the seniors are in trouble . We have helped thousands of seniors who have fallen and needed help getting up through the years.

Don’t leave your loved one to live alone without the ability to call for help when they need it most, when they can’t reach the phone for help.

I’m sitting here listening to Noah, Michelle, Casey and Roni chatting up with all of our elderly clients during this holiday season.

It makes me smile to know how my service technicians take special care when they speak to the senior community we serve with such interesting and caring conversations.

We here at Get Help Now know that sometimes we have to take a little more time to help some of our elderly seniors who are having a little difficulty replugging our medical alert system in after they have moved down to Florida or Arizona for the winter…snow birds often appreciate the time we take.

It’s not unusual to spend 30 minutes to an hour with our chatty friends.

We love our work…and we care.

I’ve noticed that a great deal of our medical alarm seniors are tending to switch to these bundled TV, Internet and cable packages. The problem is our clients often fail to push their help button to test that the new service they’ve selected works properly with our medical alarm system.

So  please make sure you test you medical alarm system after any change in your telephone service and test it monthly as well

Caregivers should pay extreme attention to the contract period of the medical alarm service they are selecting. Sometimes not only can you not cancel the medical alert system at anytime but the are charging you up to $50 per month on a 3 year contract.

Buyer beware!

For me it is the 27th Christmas since I helped pioneer the medical alarm industry or personal emergency response systems.

Christmas is the time lots of falls occur not only in the house but on the steps outside the house and on the walkways that are frozen at times.

I can remember back in the 80’s when a dear customer was letting her cat out for a nature call on her patio and she fell in the snow. Luckily she had her help button on and pressed it for help. The interesting part of this happy ending story was that the Philadelphia fire department had to shovel there way to her to get the gurney back down to the street.

Other recollections I have are of dear seniors laying overnight in the backyard, no snow, but dropping their body temperatures and not being able to summon help. The next day they ordered the system.

Others elderly loved ones just falling walking down the steps.

Safe up your loved ones houses. Make sure someone young will shovel their walkways and steps.

Call and make sure mom and dad are safe.

Simple things become more difficult for them as they age.

Think about a medical alarm system to help them when they can’t reach the phone for help.

This is mutual peace of mind.

Jeff

If you are ordering an elderly friend or family member a  medical monitoring system for the holidays…Monday is the day to order.

During the holidays shipping is not predictable. If you are looking for the medical alarm to arrive prior to Christmas it would be best to order next day delivery at this point.

Senior citizens that are receiving a medical alarm system for their personal protection are blessed but not always happy about what they may perceive as an inconvience.

Take the time to help your mom or dad or aunt or uncle or loved one realize they are getting peace of mind for them and you.

When winter arrives it brings difficulties for seniors in navigating the frozen ground…they fall.

First, a senior who falls needs a personal medical alarm to alert 911 and family of their emergency.

Second, family and caregivers should make sure they have set up a plan to clear the walkway of snow and ice. It’s like winter proofing our elderly loved ones house like you would baby proof a house for your new born.

Seniors need help and your attention. A medical alarm system may be a great Christmas/Hannukah gift.

I’m often asked to compare medical alert systems for the elderly who fall.

It’s funny, I could easily answer this question, however, the companies (particularly the large ones) are very litigious and sue if you mention their name.

Here’s what I can tell you:

Be suspicious of anyone who attempts to force you to buy now.

Be cautious of companies that speak poorly of other companies.

Use your gut to decide if you like the people you are talking to, don’t allow them to pressure you.

Make sure their monitoring center is at least UL certified.

Realize that most of the equipment out there is good…it’s the service behind it that counts.

If something sounds like to good of a bargain, it probably is. Neither the cheapest nor the most expensive may be the answer to your solution.

Request everyone’s brochure…do your homework.

These are just a few good thoughts as you approach getting a medical alert device for your loved one.

The transition for seniors is difficult to acknowledge when they are elderly and need a medical alarm system. It’s similar to the time that it’s time to tell your loved one that they need to stop driving.

It’s difficult to intervene in your mom, dad, aunt, uncle or loved ones life because the need assistance to stay in their own home alone.

The best approach is to let your loved one know that a medical alert device allows them to stay in their home while still being able to call for help when they can’t reach the phone.

It’s a difficult conversation. Some of our loved ones think it’s a great idea, while others could have fallen 3 or 4 times yet still remain to proud to allow the assistance the medical alarm system provides.

A good approach for those that feel they are fine is to blame it on yourself, let them know that you are uncomfortable and that you would feel better if they humored you.

Of course all people be they young, elderly, seniors or troubled with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), MS (Multiple Sclerosis) or anything that challenges their speach can use medical alert devices.

Many times we work out a simple set of questions that are yes no answers. Our operators are specially trained to assist in these situations. We know how to relieve stress while getting you the help you need.

A medical alarm system in these situations is most valuable, easy to use and bring peace of mind to all parties

With Thanksgiving a few days away besides giving thanks, take a good look at your elderly loved ones. Think about whether is is time for you to protect your loved one with a medical alert system.

We don’t get together enough with our loved ones, but it is a perfect time to think about your elderly loved ones safety and peace of mind.

Mom, dad, aunt, uncle and other loved ones are reticent to advise you of the health problems they have recently been encountering.

If they are bruised from a fall, look less stable or not feeling well now is the time to protect them with a medical alarm help button. Give them the ability to call out for help even if they can’t reach the phone for help.

Give both you and they the peace of mind you both deserve.

Don’t wait to take care of you mom, dad, aunt, uncle or loved one.

When you visit them during the holidays, take the time to order them a medical alarm so that you and they can have “Peace of Mind”.

Never allow your loved one to be in an emergency situation like a fall or a medical condition without the ability to reach help when they can’t get to the phone.

One pust of their medical alarms help button could save them in any emergency

Why does the holiday season always see an increase in requests for a medical alarm system?

Is it that mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather has more problems at Christmas and the holidays where they need a medical alert?

NO! The reason seniors get more medical alarms in the holiday season is that you the caregiver visit your loved one’s during the holidays and are shocked to see how much help your parents, aunts and uncles now need.

Over a 3 month period of time, when a senior reaches certain ages, much can happen in a short period of time. They may have fallen 3 times and lost their confidence. They may just be getting more weak, less able to take care of themselves.

The answer is to stay in touch with your loved ones general health, act proactively instead of after the third fall, after they’ve lost confidence to live alone.

This is the place to ask me any questions you have about medical alarm systems for seniors or loved ones.

No question is thought to be silly here.

I have pioneered the medical alarm industry since 1981 when they first started to appear. I enjoy answering questions about systems, caregiving or even just chatting about senior safety issues.

Ask away!

American Senior Safety Agency is now offering free Get Help Now medical alarm systems to social workers, discharge planners, visiting nurses and senior organizations.

Here’s how it works! Senior Safety has a Non-Profit arm called “Project Senior Safety” that receives free medical alarms through our donations.

We simply ask that you not only send us people who can’t afford a system, but also put us on your provider list for those who can afford a system.

By being fair and placing us on your provider list we are able to continuously donate to your clients who cannot afford a medical alarm service on their own.

Often times, clients can afford a nominal fee like $10 per month for their medical alarm service…that’s fine with us.

If your organization would like to become part of our network, call Roni at 1-888-473-2800

In today’s world it may be better to have mom, dad, uncle, aunt or loved one move in with you to save money for as long as you can.

Retirement homes and developments can be very expensive and not offer the good care that you personally can at home.

But there are other costs…that would be your own free time and the insanity that comes with caregiving.

One of the most reasonably priced aids to caregiving is a medical alarm system that can get your loved one the help they need when you are out taking one of those most important breaks.

Don’t leave your loved one alone and unable to get help. Think smartly!

Comparing medical alarms that seniors are using can be a might confusing. There are numerous companies making many claims.

So how can you make your comparison of medical alarm companies?

I would take the time to read everyone’s brochure. Pay particular attention to how their representative speaks to you. Are they pushy? Do you feel you are being sold? Do they want you to sign a long time agreement? Do they speak poorly of other medical alert systems?

All of the above should give you pause and make you rethink about this company. The good medical alarm companies out there do not push, do not talk poorly of other medical alarms, do not have a requirement of a 3 year agreement.

Choosing a medical alarm for your loved one is an important decision…don’t be pushed.

I have an employee who’s mother has Lou Gehrig’s disease and cannot move her arms. The father is also in the home caring for the mother.

They are looking for a voice activated medical alarm in case something happens to the father and the mother has to be able to notify someone. Is there anything like this on the market?
Thank you,
Beatrice

Hi Barrie,

My former distributor and friend Bay Area Vital Link…from the first company I founded in 1981…I believe does have a device that you can blow into to activate the alarm.

I feel for your employee as my own father passed from ALS in the mid 80’s.

Here is the website, and Arthur Hoffman would be the man to speak to.

Hope this helps,

“Rescue Alert” offers a lufetime payment.  I hate bills coming in and wonder if this is wise. Under this plan they say you own  your own unit.  Do they hold up well?  I am tempted with this.  What do you think?  I am 86.

REPLY

Hi Elynore,

It seems to me that they are one of the good companies. However, I personally don’t feel that buying the equipment is a good way to go.

If you like their company, just set up an  automatic payment scheme…I’m sure they take credit cards or direct payment through your bank.

I would also suggest that you peruse the information here about our medical alert system, I believe we give the best service in the land…it’s really not about the medical alert equipment…it’s about the service behind it.

In the past, I have spoken to the President of Rescue Alert to discuss industry matters and he seems like a nice chap running a clean business.

Hope this helps,

Jeff Miller

Good morning Jeff, found your Website through Google. Here’s my dilemma. My 80 yr.old mother and 75 yr. old dad live in Irvine ,KY. Aprox. 20 miles out of town. There is no cell service there. (I live in Dayton, OH) Mom has emphysema and drags around an oxygen hose 24 hrs. a day.  Last Tuesday she took her first fall (in 10 yrs.)from becoming tangled in that hose. Dad was out in the garage/barn puttering and had no way of knowing she fell. She rug burnt her face some and was VERY sore for a couple of days but was lucky enough ,this time, not to break anything.  What I’m looking for is some kind of a personal, not Lifeline systems, alert system that they both can wear on their persons and use to contact each other if necessary. They already have walkie talkies that they both forget to turn on or leave lying someplace she can’t reach. She would need Dad long before any emergency personal could reach them. Can you help me? Thanks a million,

Lana

REPLY

Hi Lana,

I would recommend our GET HELP NOW medical alarm system for your parents. It will cover the needs you stated…and in my opinion we give great service.  However, regardless if you choose Senior Safety for your medical alert system or another. You’re thinking is correct, it’s time to protect mom and dad with a dependable medical alert system.

Hope this helps,

Jeff Miller

Hi Jeff, Will medicare help with the cost of a medical alert system?

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

To date, we have not heard of Medicare covering a medical alarm. Medicaid certainly does cover medical alarms under certain circumstances.

If your mom or dad had Medicaid I would certainly give it a try.

Hope this helps,

Jeff Miller

Dear Jeff,

I am a fairly young single mom with a 5 year old and diabetes. We had a very scary incident where I passed out with an extremely low blood sugar and my child could not dial 911. She said she tried several times but she could not get the phone to work. Plus it was stormy outside and she was scared since I was knocked out on the floor. It was awful. She finally walked to the neighbors house and got some help.

I need to ask you for your best advice on what I should do. I feel like these monitoring systems are a good idea. Especially the one with a wall-mount button that my child can push if there is ever a problem again. I am way too young to have to worry about this, but I am unwilling to put her through that trauma again and am looking for the easiest way possible for her to contact help. I know it won’t be too much longer before she can handle dialing the phone properly, but I just want to do what I can to prevent her feeling so helpless.

Can you PLEASE go out on a limb for me and recommend to me the company that you feel the best about? I am sure you are not into endorsing anyone, but I really need a good recommendation here if you can help me. Also, is there some other alternative that you know of that I may not have thought about? I am all ears right now!

Thank you very much for your time and attention to my situation. I am greatly looking forward to hearing from you.

Blessings on your day,

Melissa

REPLY

Hi Melissa,

Boy, that is a scary situation for you. By wearing a medical alarm help button around your neck or on your wrist, and training your 5 year old to push it when mom needs help will do the trick.

I would recommend our own Get Help Now medical alarm system as the best equipment, and more importantly, the best service in the market today.

Hope this helps,

Jeff Miller

Jeff:

I am a coordinator of senior services in Grant County MN.

A number of years ago this program was carried out here and included a 3″-4″ medicine-type bottle with forms to be included in them.  I cannot seem to trace down any of these containers.  Can you tell me if they are available somewhere?

I would like to have decals available for our senior population in Grant County.  Is there a limit to the number that can be ordered?

Thank you for your time.

Janet

Hi Janet,

We suggest using a baggie with a decal placed on the baggie instead of the medicine bottle…we used to do it that way. However, it is most expensive to mail or dispense it the old way, and much more information can be put in the baggie…EKG, pictures, DNR, etc. And, everyone has a baggie (big or small) at home.

Therefore, one needs only to receive two decals and a form. And they can store it electronically on our site for changing the ever changing medications and illness’ and reprint. It is all password protected like an online banking system.

We have no limit on what we will donate in Decals to an organization…we just request that they be used and not gather dust as these cost our charity a lot of money…we even pay the shipping to you…and they are heavy (in bulk).

I’ve cc’d Denise the director of the Vial of Life Project, she will be back in the office tomorrow…but, I wanted to get back to you.

Think about your requirements and how we might help you.

Also, seniorsafety.com the medical alarm company is our biggest contributor, they have just infused us with $100,000.00 more capital to continue our efforts. So, if you can help spread the word to seniors who could use their medical alarm…we would appreciate it. We can send you as many as their brochures as you might like as well. And, they also have the form to fill out within their brochure.

Your doing a noble deed helping your seniors.

Good Luck,

Jeffrey C. Miller

Chairman

Thanks for the note.

I will be ordering decals from your online site - have no dollars this year to pay but hope to make a donation in 2008.  If you can accommodate the ordering process here, please know that I can easily use 300 stickers.  They will not collect dust on my shelves.

As far as our seniors using the website, this is somewhat of a trick!  The most active seniors in our county are not computer literate.  Our local emergency management office has supplied me with a form that can be used for emergency medical information and family information.  Basically, our residents have been instructed to visit with their family and medical care providers regrding their DNR’s ect.

If you would provide me with brochures for the medical alarm that would be greatly appreciated.  I believe that I would like 30.

Thank you for your prompt response to my inquiry.

Hi Janet,

Donations are not required…they are always nice.

I will have Robyn send you 300 Decals and 30 brochures…we’ll try to make the mail today…if not, tomorrow for sure.

Thanks,

Jeff

I am interested but I cannot get a dial tone at my address so we use cell phones. What can we do to get a medical alarm system?

David M

Hi David,

I’m sorry to say that our system does not work with cell phones. You really do need a dial tone. I have heard of some systems willing to use a cell phone connection for their medical alert system…but for us, we consider this way to unsafe.

Cell phones simply are not dependable during an emergency.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

My grandmother fell the other day and broke a rib, I suggested to her that she get a home medical alert security system thinger and she told me to research it and well discuss it later.

But we’re all in a situation where we probably couldn’t afford the service, would medicare cover the expenses?

Sean

Louisville, Kentucky (KY)

Hi Sean,

I hope she is feeling better. A broken rib hurts at any age, but as a senior citizen it’s much slower healing.

As far as I know, Medicare does not cover medical alert services, however, Medicaide often does. Try calling your local Medicaide office and see if they can help you out. We don’t happen to be a Medicaide provider…but there will be many other alarm companies hooked up with your local county that will.

Good Luck,

Jeff

Hi,

I don’t know what UL listed and FM approved monitoring centers mean.

Hi Cleo,

UL means Underwriters Laboratory’s and FM approved means Factory Mutual approved.

The UL approval is a standards and testing organization that makes sure you life up to their high standars (most electrial devices require this) and FM approved is mainly for fire and smoke detection standards (this means we are approved to monitor large complex fire systems.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Our national monitoring center is certified by UL, FM and is Department of Defense approved.

Most medical alert monitoring centers work just to get UL approved, our center is one of the few monitoring centers in the country that has received all three of these approvals.

All three certifications are not necessary…but it lets you know…we are a well experienced and trained monitoring center.

We’ve gone the extra mile!

A defibrillator applied during the first 10 minutes of a heart attack will make a huge difference in outcome.

We have a Phillips defibrillator in our office, thankfully we have never needed to use it.

For seniors with heart conditions, I recommend both a defibrillator and a medical alert system to call 911 during the emergency.

The medical alert system will give you time to pay attention to your loved one, and still know that help is on the way…and 911 can talk to you through the medical alert speaker box to tell you what to do.
